One of the most historically significant properties in Metairie, Ms. Swenson's residence is located at 426 Vincent Avenue on land which was once a part of the old Vincent plantation.

The number of guests is limited to the capacity of the lovely residence and garden. auction. Tickets are $125 per person and include Mint Juleps, of course, served in silver julep cups, buffet dinner, music, auction. Each person receives an engraved silver julep cup. Detailed information about the event, including a reservations form, will be posted shortly on this web site. In the meatime, for information and reservations, E-mail Faulkhouse@aol.com.

Juleps in June, 2008, was one of the most delightful occasions the Faulkner Society has sponsored. The event, which took place at the residence of Patricia Strachan, 1134 First Street, attracted a full house of Faulkner Society patrons, who were greeted with mint juleps in traditional silver cups by Ms. Strachan and the party committee, including Faulkner Society chairman and co-founders Rosemary James and Joseph DeSalvo, Jr. The Strachan residence is a large Garden District property and guests congregated on the veranda, in the mansion, and in the extensive gardens, enjoying food catered by Elizabeth Cox of At Your Service, with music by the Nifty Fifties band.

William Faulkner believed, "There's a lot of nourishment in an acre of corn," referring to his well known love of mint juleps made with Jack Daniels. A lovely portrait of Mr. Faulkner, created by well known New Orleans portrait artist Mary Soniat, was to have been auctioned at Juleps in June. Because the crowd was large and widely dispersed over the Strachan property, a decision was made to reserve the painting for auction at a later event, "Happy Birthday, Mr. Faulkner" on September 25, along with other auction items. If you are unable to attend the September event, you may submit a bid by e-mail to info@wordsandmusic.org

We offer our sincere thanks to this year's gala committee, including Honorary Chairman Patricia Strachan, who is generously allowing the Faulkner Society touse her residence, 1134 First Street, for the event, and Gala co-chairs Anne Simms Pincus, who currently is chairman of the Executive Board of the Faulkner Society, and board member, Sandra Trout Wilson, who chairs the Advisory Council.
