Guidelines

For

Presentation of Papers


Guidelines for those who wish to present papers at Words & Music, 2010 are as follows:

1. The topic selected by the presenter must relate to the overall theme of Words & Music, 2010, which is The Literature of War & Collateral Damage, and must fall within three basic subdivisions:
     a. The Psychology of War.
     b. War & The Arts.
     c. War & The Environment

2. The presenter must submit a proposal which includes a contact page with the presenter's name, all contact information, a title, a two-line description of the topic, a two-paragraph bio, and any a/v requirements, along with a synopsis, maximum two pages, including the following paragraph at the bottom of page two of the synopsis:

I agree to prepare a presentation as outlined above to fall within the time limit of 15 minutes or less and take questions for five minutes (or more if the presentation is less than 15 minutes). I understand that the time slot for my presentation will be 20 minutes.

Presenters will be notified within seven days of receipt of proposal if the proposal is accepted for presentation during Words & Music, 2010.

3. Once a presentation is accepted, the presenter must register. No presentation will be scheduled until the presenter has registered for Words & Music, 2010. The time slots for registration will be awarded on a first come and selected, first serve basis, with the most desirable times scheduled for those who register earliest. In an e-mail letter accompanying your proposal, please note any days of the conference which are out of the question for you because of your work schedule, teaching classes, for instance. The dates of the festival with slots for presentations are Wednesday, November 17, 10 a. m. to Noon; Thursday, November 18, Friday, November 19, Saturday, November 20, 8:30 a. m. to 5:30 p. m. daily; and Sunday, November 21, 9 to noon. As far as possible, papers will be grouped by related subject matter.

Two registration packages are available:

FULL TUITION PACKAGE
(Presenters): $395

This fee includes all discussions, workshops, master classes.
There is a $25 discount for presenters registering before August 1, 2010.

Entertainment/dinner/luncheon/music events are priced separately and are not included in this package, can be
purchased on a per event basis.

INDIVIDUAL ALL-EVENTS PASS:
$825.00
($950 if all events purchased separately)
One ticket to every event of Words & Music, including workshops, master classes, lunches, dinners,and evening entertainment!
There is a $25 discount for presenters registering before August 1, 2010.

Note: registration packages do not include hotel accommodations.


4. The papers are to be written in literary language accessible to a general, educated audience, not just to scholars or technical experts.

5. Papers to be presented must be in our hands by William Faulkner's birthday anniversary,
September 25, 2010.

6. A special committee of Words & Music, 2010 will select one paper from each division to be published in the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society's on-line literary journal, The Double DealerAuthors of these three papers each will be invited to participate in one special round table discussion with other faculty members of Words & Music, 2010. An honorarium of $125 each will be paid to these three individuals. The Faulkner Society will have one-time rights to publish these papers in The Double Dealer and in The Proceedings of Words & Music, 2010 (working title). Each presenter will receive a CD copy of "The Proceedings." Audio tapes of presentations may be purchased from the Society.
